Waivlength; What has Been, What Is, and What will Be

A lot has been happening behind the scenes at Waivlength in the past number of months. Through that time our project has gone through many changes. This article represents a fresh start, giving some clarity on what has happened in the past few months, and offers guidance on what’s to come in the next 3 months for Waivlength.

The Last 3 Months

For some time we had set August to be our launch month for the Waivlength platform. This didn’t materialize for a number of reasons;

Ideation & Initial Concept Pivots
While our community was enthusiastic about the platform as was described then, internally we started to become more critical of our concepts and whether they were truly novel and unique. Discussions with the Algorand Foundation, Ecosystem partners, fundraising vehicles and technical contributors to Algorand’s network gave us a great deal of constructive feedback. This process highlighted another direction was needed for the platform to succeed on a large scale.

Business Model Outlook
Our previous model had a huge dependency on user-driven revenue in order to become successful. As a social start-up building in a novel arena, this is a very difficult task. Reflecting on this in the context of these other points, we concluded that another path was necessary. While building out the various elements of Waivlength, it occurred to us that some of these features could be used across other entities/protocols, and with that, we became a product-first entity. This meant that we would reduce reliance on user-driven revenue sources by introducing product-driven revenue. As such, we stepped back into the conceptualization and architecture design phase which would result in further delays to platform launch mentioned above.

Scale
Most understand Waivlength as a verified social media platform built on blockchain. While some elements remain, this is no longer the case. Waivlength’s outlook, reach, and scale is far greater. With the introduction of everything mentioned above, the sheer scale of Waivlength has now dramatically changed. Our core vision for what we wanted to achieve remains intact, but the scale on which that vision is achieved is quite different.

With these thoughts and considerations, we made the necessary decision to delay Waivlength’s release further and think bigger.

Now

Now, at the end of August, we stand with the current form of Waivlength, and what we will be bringing through to launch and beyond.

Waivlength is a product-first entity that builds a multitude of Web3 solutions. It is also a decentralised communications platform.

The iteration that is most familiar to our follower base is the second aspect, with some pivots. Let’s talk through these 2 elements in their current form.

Waivlengths Products
These are, in part, components of the Waivlength dApp. They are built to apply to numerous use-cases. Our aim is to bring an array of Web3 products to Algorands ecosystem while mutually benefitting our dApp Waivlength Social. Our products include the following:

WaivID
WaivID is a Self-Sovereign Digital Identity solution. WaivID will host multiple decentralized identifiers (DID’s) to assemble a detailed mosaic of identity, determined by the requirements of the specific use case.

WaivIM
End-to-end Encrypted, privacy preserving solution for 1 to 1, 1 to many & many to many messaging.

WaivShare
A decentralized storage service equipped with tamperproof history and content integrity control using blockchain distributed ledger technology.

WaivFi
Extends WaivID and WaivIM to transform decentralized social finance, equipping the user with easy to use DeFi protocols.

Each of these products in combination make up Waivlength Social. The problem was that they were built exclusively for Waivlength Social’s use-case at first. With our new product-first approach, we’re building these products with usability across other entities/protocols in mind. These are all standalone products but can also be used together within any social domain online.

Waivlength Social
“A KYC’d Social Media Platform…” This was the first iteration of Waivlength. Our concept for what this application would entail has shifted dramatically over the past year. We finally feel that we are in a position to drive toward our vision for the best version of what Waivlength can be.

Waivlength’s unique features and novel feel are still in their concept phases, and these will be communicated in time, however we have given our use-case a lot of thought and the current iteration is as follows:

Waivlength Social is a communications platform built on decentralized identity. Best thought of as a Web3 version of Discord or Slack. As mentioned above, we are in the process of finalizing our unique value proposition and will communicate that when ready.

The Next 3 Months

Over the next 3 months we will be building out the necessary parts of Waivlength Products that will allow Waivlength Social to function. We are also building the necessary frontend packages so we can launch as both a mobile and desktop application. Integrations with both are planned too. We have allotted 3 months to complete this, meaning a mid-November public testnet launch of Waivlength Social.

In the near-term (2–4 weeks) we will be re-branding, finishing the front-end mobile and desktop design of Waivlength Social, and informing the community on the current position of Waivlength. This will include a re-write of our Whitepaper and website.

In the medium term (2–3 months) we will be building the tech for, and launching Waivlength Social.

These are exciting times ahead and we can’t wait to bring you along!
